Creditors recovered Rs 3.58 lakh crore through resolution plan under insolvency law

Creditors have recovered Rs 3.58 lakh crore by settling 1,119 cases under the Insolvency Law. This recovery figure is according to official figures of 31 December 2014. Minister of State for Company Affairs Harsh Malhotra gave this information in the Rajya Sabha on 11 February. He has given this information quoting the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India. He says that a total of 2,707 cases were also settled through liquidation orders.

In a written reply, the minister said, 'According to the information provided by the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), till December 31, 2024, resolution plans were seen in 1,119 cases and through these cases, Rs 3.58 lakh crore was recovered for the creditors.' Apart from this, final reports have also been submitted in 1,274 cases, in which creditors have recovered Rs 0.13 lakh crore.

According to the minister, information about the amount waived or forgiven in this case is not available. He said, 'The process of recovery under the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) is market based and among many things, it depends on the quality of assets at the time of resolution. Therefore, no limit has been set on the settlement amount.' Apart from this, the data of recovery by banks under the IBC process is also not maintained.
