Trump also imposed tariffs on ice-covered Antarctic islands, Australian PM took a jibe

US President Donald Trump has shown no mercy on any region of the world in imposing tariffs. He has imposed tariffs even on those areas where there is no population anywhere. Two islands of Antarctica – Heard Island and McDonald Island – have also come under the purview of his tariff. Only glaciers, penguins and seals are seen in these snow-covered areas. These islands are considered to be the external territories of Australia. These are considered to be the most remote areas on earth. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has taken a dig at Trump for imposing tariffs on these islands.

10 percent tariff on Heard Island and McDonald Island

Albanese ( Anthony Albanese ) said, "No place on earth is safe." Shocked by the 10 percent tariff imposed on both the islands, the Australian Prime Minister said that this cannot be the work of a friend. However, he said that he will not impose duty on America in response. Both these islands are located about 4,000 kilometers away from Australia. It is very difficult to reach there. Only penguins rule here. It is also home to many species of birds. It takes two weeks by boat to reach here from Perth in Australia. Humans have not set foot here in the last one decade.

Australia has control over both islands since 1953

Australia has controlled both these islands since 1953. It is said that Trump has not imposed tariffs only on these two Australian islands. He has also imposed tariffs on Christmas Island and Cocos Keeling Island. A 29 percent tariff has been imposed on Norfolk Island. Under the Antarctic Treaty, many types of scientific research work keep going on in this area. No other country except Australia is interested in these areas. The reason for this is that it is impossible for humans to live here.

10 to 50 percent tariff on 180 big and small countries

On April 2, Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on about 180 countries. This includes tariffs ranging from 10 percent to 50 percent. These include small and big countries. These also include many countries that hardly export any goods to America. However, the biggest target of this tariff of America is China, which exports a lot of goods to America.
