'1000 Hindu devotees missing from Maha Kumbh', Akhilesh Yadav's big claim

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Wednesday claimed that nearly 1,000 Hindu devotees who had gone to the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj are missing. The former Uttar Pradesh chief minister asked how much budget the Centre has allotted for the Maha Kumbh. "Can anyone imagine that the chief ministers of Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh were deciding where vehicles would be parked? Many IPS officers were stopping people from going for bathing, saying they did not have the capacity to facilitate them," PTI quoted Yadav as saying outside the Parliament complex.

He said, "People are being stopped at the borders. The central government must have given the state government a budget for the Maha Kumbh – this should be mentioned. At a time when the pages of history are being turned, the maximum loss of life has been of Hindu devotees."

Yadav said, "BJP and its people should help the families who lost their loved ones in Maha Kumbh. There are still 1000 Hindus missing from Kumbh, whose whereabouts are not known. BJP should provide information about those 1000 people who are missing."

Yadav said, "The government should find the missing Hindu brothers and reunite them with their families. People put up posters of the missing people and the government is getting them removed as well."

What did Prime Minister Modi say in Parliament

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said the recent Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj was a "defining moment in India's history".

"People shed their ego and gathered in Prayagraj with a spirit of 'we' and not 'I'. Maha Kumbh has shown that there is no distinction between big and small – it reflects India's immense power. It has reaffirmed that the profound element of unity is deeply ingrained within us," PTI quoted the prime minister as saying in the Lok Sabha.
