Earthquake in Nepal: The ground shook in Nepal, people came out of their homes, earthquake tremors of 4.5 magnitude felt

Strong tremors of earthquake were felt in India's neighboring country Nepal. This earthquake occurred in Nepal's northwestern Humla district. As soon as the earthquake struck, people came out of their houses. There was panic in the entire area. These tremors of earthquake came on 26 March (Wednesday) at around 7.45 pm. Its intensity was measured 4.5 on the Richter scale. However, there is no news of loss of life or property due to this earthquake. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Kalika area of Humla district, located 425 kilometers north-west of Kathmandu.

Meanwhile, according to the centre, earthquake jolts were felt at 6.27 pm. Its intensity was measured at 5.5. Its epicentre was in Tibet's Tingri County. It was also felt in Kathmandu. Overall, people in Nepal were terrified due to earthquake jolts twice in a short interval of time.

Memories of Nepal's devastating earthquake are fresh again

Nepal is one of the most active seismic zones in the world and falls in seismic zones IV and V. Therefore, there is always a risk of earthquake in many areas here. The earthquake that struck here in 2015 caused a lot of damage. The magnitude of the earthquake at that time was 7.8. More than 9,000 people died in this earthquake. More than 10 lakh houses were destroyed. Many buildings collapsed like a pack of cards.

Know how an earthquake occurs

The main reason for earthquake is the collision of plates inside the earth. There are seven plates inside the earth which keep rotating continuously. When these plates collide with each other at a place, a fault line zone is formed there. Then the corners of the surface bend. Due to the bending of the corners of the surface, pressure is created there and the plates start breaking. Due to the breaking of these plates, the energy inside finds a way to come out. Due to which the earth shakes and we consider it an earthquake.

How is the intensity of an earthquake measured and what is the scale to measure it?

Earthquakes are measured using the Richter scale. It is called the Richter Magnitude Test Scale. On the Richter scale, earthquakes are measured on the basis of 1 to 9. Earthquakes are measured from its center i.e. the epicenter. The intensity of the energy released from within the earth during an earthquake is measured by this. The intensity of the earthquake shock is estimated from this intensity.
