'They are being fed for free' Amid the uproar at KIIT, this comment by a female professor further increased the tension

KIIT Student Suicide: The death of a Nepali student at KIIT (Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha has now gained momentum. The incident has become a cause of diplomatic tension between India and Nepal. Amid the growing controversy, a video of a heated argument between two university employees and protesting students on campus has gone viral on social media.

In the video, a professor named Manjusha Pandey can be heard telling students that the institute's founder "feeds and teaches 40,000 students for free". In the same video, another employee named Jayanti Nath says that the amount spent on students is equal to Nepal's national budget. These anti-foreigner comments further escalated an already tense situation.

After the video of this statement of the female professor went viral, KIIT suspended the female professor and officially apologized to the students. After the action, the female professor also apologized to the students.

KIIT said this

KIIT said in its statement, "We are extremely shocked by the unpleasant incident that took place on our campus on the evening of 16 February 2025. We regret the way some of us treated the agitating students. We love our students and have never disrespected them. The comments made by two of our officials are extremely irresponsible. We also apologise for what happened and express our love and affection to all the students and people of Nepal."

The female professor said this

While giving clarification in this matter, Manjusha Pandey said, "I am making this video to apologize for the things said suddenly on the night of the 16th. I want to tell that whatever statements I have given are my personal views and it has nothing to do with any official of KIIT University. And if any of my statements have hurt the sentiments of my Nepali students or the people of Nepal, then I sincerely apologize for this."

Let us tell you that in the case of death of Nepali student, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Police has arrested 21-year-old Advik Srivastava from Lucknow. The victim, 20-year-old Prakriti Lamsal of Nepal, had committed suicide by hanging herself. A case has been registered under Section 108 of the Indian Penal Code (BNS).
