The journey started at the age of 16
Hairdresser Aalim Hakim told Brut India about his career. He said that he started learning the art of hair dressing since childhood. His father was a famous barber. Many big Bollywood celebrities were his clients. When Aalim Hakim was just 9 years old, his father passed away. After this, the responsibility of the family fell on him. Due to family responsibilities, he started his professional journey at the age of just 16. He decided to carry forward his father's name and started "Hakeem's Aalim".
Bought second-hand AC for Rs 30,000
Aalim Hakim started with a small salon in the balcony of his house, where he used to practice hair cutting with his college friends. Aalim Hakim never gave up despite difficult circumstances. The biggest change for him came when he installed an air conditioner in his salon. Earlier, his salon was in the balcony of his house, where there was only a small fan. He slowly saved money and bought a second-hand AC worth Rs 30,000. He kept paying instalments of Rs 2,000-3,000 every month and when he paid the full amount, he felt very proud. He said, "At that time I felt that I have become rich, because now my salon had an AC!"
These Bollywood celebs get their hair cut
In the 1990s, Aalim Hakim's college friends started coming to him for haircuts and his appointment diary was always full. Gradually, Bollywood stars also started visiting him. Big stars like Salman Khan, Fardeen Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Suniel Shetty and Ajay Devgan became his clients 20 years ago and still get their hair cut by him. Aalim Hakim said, "This is loyalty, they have never changed me."
How much does a hakim charge
Aalim Hakim said that the minimum fee for his service is Rs 1 lakh. In an interview to Brut India, he said, "My fee is fixed, everyone knows how much I charge. It is not less than Rs 1 lakh."
