Karnataka MLAs Honey Trap Case: Karnataka Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi on Thursday (March 20) claimed that two failed attempts were made to 'honey trap' a senior minister of the state. According to media reports, apart from this, many MLAs and ministers alleged that attempts are being made to honey trap at least 48 MLAs in the state. They demanded a police investigation into the matter. In response to a question, Jarkiholi told reporters that two attempts were made to honey trap a minister, but they were not successful. This is not the first incident of honey trap in Karnataka.
Condemning the incident, he said that such tricks should not be played in politics. The minister said that some people take advantage of such situations for political gains. This should be stopped. He said, "We have asked the concerned minister to lodge a complaint. Only after that the police can take action and start investigation."
Meanwhile, according to 'Indian Express', Karnataka's Cooperation Minister K N Rajanna claimed that 48 MLAs of the state have been trapped in a honeytrap. He admitted that an attempt was made to trap him as well. He has demanded an investigation into the matter from the state police.
Rajanna's remarks came after BJP MLA Basangouda Patil Yatnal alleged in the House that someone was involved in honey-trapping MLAs in his bid to become chief minister. In response, the minister said that according to many people "Karnataka has become a factory of CDs and pen drives."
order of investigation
Meanwhile, Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara said he will order a high-level probe into honey trap cases in the state. He stressed that such tendencies need to be stopped. "If we have to save the dignity of our members, we have to stop such incidents. This is a serious issue," the Home Minister said in the Assembly.
"I will order a high-level inquiry into the matter," he said, according to news agency PTI. Jarkiholi stressed that those responsible for this should be brought to justice. "We will talk to the Chief Minister (Siddaramaiah). We have also discussed this with the Home Minister (Parameshwara). If there is any complaint, it will help in the investigation," he said.
Emphasising the need for a non-partisan fight against 'honey trap', Jarkiholi said leaders from all parties have fallen prey to it. "Even in earlier governments, there were victims of honey trap, some names were heard, now the names of our people (Congress) have been heard, it won't be a surprise if it happens in future too. This should stop," he said.
Deputy CM's statement came
State Deputy CM DK Shivakumar also supported the demand for a police complaint in the case. He told the media that first a complaint should be lodged in the police station, then it will be investigated. The BJP MLA had raised this issue in the Assembly on Wednesday. He accused the state's Congress government of running a honey-trap factory and demanded action from the Home Department.
