Who will be the CM?
There are many names in the race for the Delhi CM post, the most prominent name being that of Pravesh Verma. BJP fielded Pravesh against AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal in New Delhi and he became a prominent figure after defeating Kejriwal. Satish Upadhyay is another strong contender for the CM post. He has served as Delhi BJP president and has also been the president of Delhi youth wing.
The third name in the list is Ashish Sood, who is the Punjabi face of BJP in Delhi. Jitendra Mahajan is also being considered as a possible candidate for the CM post. The fifth name in the race is Vijender Gupta. If the party chooses a woman leader, then former Delhi mayor and first-time MLA Rekha Gupta could be a possibility.
BJP has won power by winning 48 out of 70 seats in Delhi Assembly. In this election, there was a direct contest between BJP and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). However, this time AAP was able to get only 22 seats. Prominent AAP leaders like Arvind Kejriwal, Manish Sisodia, Saurabh Bhardwaj and Satyendra Jain could not taste victory this time. Voting for Delhi Assembly elections was held on 5 February and the results were declared on 8 February.
