Earthquake tremors have been felt once again in Myanmar. The intensity of the earthquake that struck Myanmar on Sunday was measured around 5 on the Richter scale. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.1 on the Richter scale. The tremor was felt 13 miles northwest of Mandalay. Meanwhile, the National Center for Seismology (NCS) said that the magnitude of the earthquake was 4.6. At the same time, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) says that the magnitude of the earthquake was 5.2.
The earthquake struck Mandalay between 12 noon and 1 pm on Sunday. Earlier on March 28, a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand caused massive destruction. Many buildings collapsed and other infrastructure was damaged. So far 1,644 people have died and more than 3,400 people have been injured due to the earthquake. 139 people are missing after the earthquake. This number is expected to increase.
India sent 15 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar
Amid the death and destruction caused by a massive earthquake, India on Saturday airlifted 15 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar. India has sent more supplies by air and sea along with rescue teams under the emergency mission 'Operation Brahma'. Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Myanmar's military General Min Aung Hlaing and said India stands in solidarity with him in his efforts to deal with the devastation caused by the massive earthquake in his country.
India is sending disaster relief material, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue teams to the affected areas under 'Operation Brahma'. Officials say India has become the first country to send rescue workers to Myanmar to assist local authorities. India shares a 1,643 km long border with Myanmar.
