Nifty remained in red only in April of the year 2015, year 2021 and year 2022, while in April of the year 2018 and year 2020 there was a rise of close to 5 percent.

What has been the broader market and sector-wise trend?

Nifty remained green on all seven Aprils in ten years but the situation in the broader market was even better. Nifty Midcap Index remained green in April 8 times in ten years i.e. equal to Nifty but the average growth was 4% and the median return was 4.3%. Sector wise, in April month in 8 out of 10 times, Metals gave an average return of 7%, Auto 4.9%, Energy 4.6% and CPSE 3.6%. Nifty index of Banks and FMCG remained green in April seven times and Nifty Bank gave an average return of 3.4% and Nifty FMCG 2%. The worst performance was of Nifty IT which gave an average return of (-)1% in April in 7 out of 10 times.
